Polyamide (PA, PA 6 / 6.6 / 6.10) | |||||
Polyamides are linear polymers obtained by the polycondensation method. The word "nylon" was originally a trademark of polyamide, but now it can often be heard for the general name of this class of polymers. PA 6 and PA 6.6 - the most common representatives, the global volume of their production, is about 90% of the production of all polyamides.
The remaining polyamides (PA 4.6, PA 6.10, PA 12, etc.) are produced for special purposes. The complex of technical and economic characteristics of the PA allowed this material to achieve high commercial success. Polyamides are very polar and have crystalline and amorphous regions responsible for elasticity. Due to this feature, the polyamide has high strength characteristics, high hardness, wear resistance, heat resistance and low coefficient of linear thermal expansion.
